She was a leader in 2005 when she guided the Portland Pilots team to an unbeaten season that culminated with winning the NCAA Division I Woman's Soccer Championship. Rapinoe made it one of America's leading scorers during her sophomore year, scoring ten times. But her season ended due to a ruptured ACL. It was the same injury that ended the 2007 season with just two games. Rapinoe recovered from her injury, and was able to help the Pilots achieve a record of 20-2 for 2008.

Born in Portland however, she spent her first 5 or six year in Boring. Her family had an bee farm there. Even though her mother was allergic to bees, she was surrounded by farm animals. The couple divorced and relocated to Montana, then Seattle where her mother changed jobs often. They didn't run the bee farm for long. Maria moved together with her parents to Minnesota and was a student at Apple Valley High School. She was also a member of and the National Forensic League and the Awards-winning forensics program. The acclaim she received in high school had her called Homecoming Princess. Early Beginnings and Career After she finished her studies in the year 2000, she enrolled at New York's Juilliard School where she studied acting and fulfilled the dream she had for a long time of participating on an Broadway production.
